How How To Draw A Dog - Dogs are man's best friend, and there are over 300 breeds that range from the chihuahua to the German shepherd to the Labrador retriever. Learning how to draw a dog is a great way to practice drawing animals. Whether you're drawing a realistic dog like a hound or a Doberman pinscher, or a cartoon dog, the process is pretty simple if you know where to start.

1. Drawing Hunting Dog

Make a small circle. This will be the outline of the dog's head.

Draw a rectangle that extends beyond the circle. This will be the start of the dog's muzzle.

Add 2 triangles at the top of the circle. Both will become dog ears.

Draw 2 straight lines from the circle pointing downwards. This will be the outline of the dog's neck.

Draw a large vertical oval under the neck. The oval will be the upper part of the dog's body.

Create a small vertical oval that overlaps the bottom of the large oval. This will be the lower part of the dog's body, including the belly.

Add an even smaller oval that overlaps the previous oval you drew. This oval will be the lower part of the dog's back.

Connect the largest and smallest ovals with straight lines. This line will form the dog's back.

Draw straight lines that extend down away from the large oval. These lines will become the dog's front legs. Connect the stripes at the base to close the legs.

Draw a rectangle sticking out of the forelegs and a small oval. This will be the dog's paw.

Draw a curved line going up from the smallest oval. This line will be the dog's tail.

Add a small horizontal oval at the top of the forelegs. This will be the bone and muscle area of the dog's leg.

Draw a rough outline of a dog using the shapes you have created so far. Start filling in details, such as the dog's eyes, nose, mouth, nose, and ears.

Erase all the guide lines made earlier. When you're done erasing the guide lines, all that's left is the detailed outline of the dog you drew.

Color the dog to complete the picture. You can color your dog however you like, but if you want to create a realistic looking dog, we recommend using brown.

2. Drawing Doberman Pinscher

Create 2 side-by-side horizontal ovals. Make one oval slightly larger than the other. Make sure the two are not too far apart.

Draw a thin outline of the dog around the 2 ovals. First of all, draw a line going down and down the top of the drawn oval. Then, draw a similar line underneath. For the bottom line, make a slight curve between the two ovals. Next, draw the initial leg. Finally, outline the shape of the head with slightly overlapping ovals.

Add additional details to the outline. Make the ears, muzzle, paws and tail of the dog.

Erase the guide lines in the image and add details. Once the guide lines are removed, you can draw the outline of the feathers. You can also smudge the pencil a little to create shadows.

Color the image. For a Doberman pinscher image, we recommend using black with brown shadows.

3. Drawing Cartoon Puppy

Draw a circle. This will be the outline of the cartoon puppy's head.

Make a horizontal oval under the circle so that it overlaps. This will be the outline of the puppy's muzzle.

Make 4 small ovals on the inside of the circle. These ovals will be the puppy's eyes. Start with 2 small ovals inside the circle. Then, draw a small oval inside each one.

Add a small circle inside the large horizontal oval. This will be the puppy's nose.

Draw a curved line under the nose to become the mouth. First, draw 2 rising curved lines that meet to form the letter “W”. Then, draw a third rising curved line below the previous "W" shape.

Draw a curved line as one puppy ear. Draw the ears so that they are sticking out of the top of the puppy's head, and drooping to one side.

Draw a second ear on the other side of the head. Make a curved line like the first ear.

Add a horizontal rectangle below the large oval. Rectangles and ovals should be somewhat overlapping.

Draw a square with curved sides under the rectangle. Squares and rectangles should overlap somewhat. This will form part of the outline of the puppy's body.

Add a second, slightly larger curved square below the first. This will be the outline of the dog's belly.

Draw a third curved shape below the previously created curved line. This will be the puppy's lower back.

Draw a small oval at the bottom of the shape you previously drew. The small oval will be the sole of the hind foot.

Draw a curved line that extends down from the upper body to become the forelegs. Connect the lower ends of the curved line, but leave the upper ends unconnected.

Draw an oval on the bottom of the forelegs. This is the outline of the pup's forelegs.

Draw 2 more curved lines that go down the upper body for the other front leg. Connect the lower ends of the stripes as you would the other leg.

Place a small oval on the bottom of the second forefoot. This will be the sole of the other forefoot.

Make a short curve line and go up from the lower back. This is the beginning of a puppy's tail.

Outline the detailed outline of the puppy using the guides made so far. You will need to add details like eyes, tongue, and nails.

Erase all auxiliary lines. When you're done, all that's left is the detailed outline of the puppy.

Color the image. You can draw a puppy using any color you like! Some good colors include brown, black, gray, and tan.

4. Drawing Cartoon Adult Dog

Draw 2 circles and one horizontal oval. Make one circle larger than the other, and the smaller circle above the oval and the large circle. These shapes will form the framework for your drawing.

Draw the dog's paws sticking out of the larger oval and circle. Divide the legs into trapezoids, rectangles, and polygons. Make 2 feet sticking out of the oval, and 2 feet sticking out of the big circle.

Draw the outline of the dog's body. Draw a curved line to connect the oval to the circle. Also, add a small tail sticking out from the side of the big circle.
